Kyrgyzstan is a country that defies expectations. From the lush, spruce-lined gorges of the north to the rugged, high-altitude deserts of the south, it offers a landscape for every type of traveler.

At Casting Travel, we believe that the journey should be as comfortable as it is adventurous. Whether you are looking for an intimate 4×4 expedition to the most remote peaks or a comfortable group tour in one of our specialized Mercedes Sprinter vans, this 10-day itinerary covers the very best of the “Celestial Mountains.”

The 10-Day Route: Culture, Nature, and Adventure

Day 1: Bishkek & The Burana Tower

Your journey begins in Bishkek, the green heart of Central Asia. After a short drive, we visit the Burana Tower, an 11th-century minaret that stands as a guardian of the Silk Road.

  • Highlight: Walking among the “Balbals” (ancient stone warriors).
  • Transport: Smooth highway drive, perfect for getting settled in our Sprinter or Sequoia.

Day 2: Issyk-Kul’s Northern Shore & Canyons

We head toward Issyk-Kul, the world’s second-largest alpine lake. On the way, we explore the Kok-Moinok Canyons, featuring winding sandstone formations that provide incredible photo opportunities.

  • Evening: Arrival in Karakol, a crossroads of cultures.

Day 3: Karakol: A Cultural Melting Pot

Karakol is famous for its unique architecture and food. We visit the Dungan Mosque (built without a single nail) and the Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral.

  • Culinary Experience: A traditional Dungan dinner, featuring the famous Ashlan-Fu.

Day 4: Jyrgalan Valley or Altyn-Arashan

Depending on the group’s preference, we head into the mountains.

  • Jyrgalan: Perfect for horse riding to the Turnaluu-Kol Lake.
  • Altyn-Arashan: Famous for its natural hot springs.
  • Note: For larger groups on Sprinters, we use local 4×4 shuttles to reach these high-altitude spots, ensuring safety and comfort.

Day 5: The South Shore & Skazka Canyon

The South Shore is wilder and more dramatic. We explore Skazka (Fairytale) Canyon, where the red rocks have been carved by wind into castles and dragons. Later, we visit the Barskoon Waterfall, surrounded by massive Tien Shan firs.

Day 6: Nomad Traditions in Bokonbaevo

In Bokonbaevo, we meet a “Berkutchi” — a traditional eagle hunter. You’ll see a demonstration of this ancient bond between man and bird.

  • Crafts: A masterclass in making Shyrdaks (traditional felt rugs).

Day 7: The Silk Road Spirit: Tash-Rabat

We drive deep into the Naryn region to visit Tash-Rabat, a 15th-century stone caravanserai. It is one of the best-preserved Silk Road sites in the world, tucked away in a hidden valley near the Chinese border.

Day 8: Song-Kul: Life Above the Clouds

At 3,016 meters, Song-Kul Lake is where the sky meets the earth. There are no permanent buildings here — only yurts and thousands of horses.

  • Stay: Overnight in a authentic yurt camp under the brightest stars you’ve ever seen.

Day 9: Kyzyl-Oi & The Red River

We descend through the dramatic canyons of the Kökömeren River. The village of Kyzyl-Oi is famous for its reddish clay mountains and stunning landscapes, offering a peaceful glimpse into rural Kyrgyz life.

Day 10: Too-Ashuu Pass & Return to Bishkek

The final leg of our journey takes us over the Too-Ashuu Pass (3,200m). The panoramic views of the Suusamyr Valley are the perfect farewell to the mountains before we descend back into Bishkek.
