Kyrgyzstan 4×4 Jeep Tour: 12-Day Expedition to Inylchek, Kel-Suu & Ak-Say

Tash Rabat Caravan Sarai

Join the ultimate 2026 off-road expedition across Kyrgyzstan. Explore Tien Shan mountain regeons Inylchek Ghost Town, the rugged Sary-Jaz valley, Arabel Plateau, and the Ak-Say valley “Pole of Cold.” Visit remote Kel-Suu and Son Kul lakes in a premium 4×4 Jeep tour.

Highlights of the “Great Tien Shan Loop” Expedition

  1. Exclusive Restricted Zones: Experience the haunting beauty of the Inylchek Ghost Town and witness the 7,000m giant Khan Tengri. These remote areas are strictly controlled border zones, making your visit truly unique.
  2. Two Poles of Adventure: Travel from the sub-arctic “tundra” of the Arabel Plateau (3800m) to the rugged, silent Ak-Say Valley — officially Kyrgyzstan’s “Pole of Cold.”
  3. Mystical Alpine Lakes: Discover Kel-Suu, Son-Kul, and Suttu-Bulak. Each lake offers a distinct personality: from dramatic turquoise cliffs to vast, tranquil basins reflecting nomadic yurt camps.
  4. Silk Road Spirits: Explore the ancient Tash-Rabat Caravanserai (15th c.). This stone fortress, tucked deep in the mountains, will transport you back to the era of camel caravans and legendary merchants.
  5. Total Immersion: A perfect blend of off-road thrills and cultural authenticity: witness traditional eagle hunting, stay in authentic felt yurts, learn the art of felt-making, and enjoy home-cooked meals with local families.

Itinerary

Day 1: Bishkek – Burana Tower – Chon-Kemin

Burana Tower

Your journey begins at the gates of the past — Burana Tower, a silent witness to the Silk Road’s golden age. After a historical immersion, we head to the Chon-Kemin Valley. In the evening, we’ll hike to a panoramic viewpoint: you’ll see the setting sun paint the snowy ridges in gold as the vast valley unfolds beneath your feet.

Day 2: Kok-Moinok Canyons – Grigorievskoye and Semenovskoye Gorges – Karakol

Suttuu Bulak lake

Today we explore the "Martian" landscapes of the Kok-Moinok Canyons before diving into the emerald greenery of the two most famous gorges on the north shore. We’ll cross them entirely via a mountain pass. The day's highlight is a hike to the high-altitude Suttu-Bulak Lake, whose turquoise waters look surreal against the backdrop of ancient spruce forests.

Day 3: Altyn-Arashan Gorge (Radial)

Hot Springs Altyn Arashan

Prepare for a true test for the vehicles and a treat for your eyes. In a heavy-duty 4x4, we’ll ascend to the Altyn-Arashan Gorge via one of the most extreme mountain roads in the country. Your reward? Soaking in hot radon springs under the open sky, with a direct view of the majestic icy wall of Peak Palatka.

Day 4: Jyrgalan – Lake Turnaluu-Kol

horse backriding

The Jyrgalan Valley is a place where you can actually hear the silence. We’ll mount our horses and head to Turnaluu-Kol (Crane Lake). The path leads through alpine meadows where the air is thick with the scent of wildflowers and freedom. A day of ultimate connection with the spirit of the Tien Shan.

Day 5: Pass Chon-Ashuu — Inilchek — Sary-Jazz

Chon Ashu Pass

We cross the border of reality at the Chon-Ashuu Pass (3900m) and enter a restricted border zone. Ahead lies the abandoned Inylchek Ghost Town, a monument to a forgotten era, followed by a soak in wild hot springs right in the icy riverbed. We’ll camp in the Sary-Jaz Valley, facing the 7,000m giant Khan Tengri.

Day 6: Chon-Zhylanalak Valley — Karakol

the baisin of Sary Jaz

A morning in the heart of the mountains. We’ll explore a mysterious cave and trek along the Chon-Zhylanalak River, watching ancient glaciers glisten in the sun. This is the edge of civilization, with nothing but eternal snows beyond. After lunch, we return to the comfort of Karakol.

Day 7: Arabel Plateau – Skazka Canyon – Bokonbaevo

arabel plateau's lakes

An ascent to the "roof of the world" — the Arabel Plateau (3800m). This is a realm of high-altitude tundra and dozens of lakes, where snow can fall even in mid-summer. Descending to Issyk-Kul, we’ll explore the golden labyrinths of Skazka (Fairytale) Canyon. The night ends with the magic of ethnic music under the starlit sky.

Day 8: Berkutchi Show – Ak-Sai Canyons – Son-Kul

Ak Sai canyons

We’ll witness the ancient art of eagle hunting, followed by a trek through the wild Ak-Say Canyons. After a refreshing dip in Issyk-Kul lake, we begin the climb to the legendary Son-Kul Lake (3016m) — the cradle of Kyrgyz nomadic life, where shepherds' yurts stand exactly as they did centuries ago.

Day 9: MELS pass - Tash-Rabat

Pass 33 Parrots

Today features one of the most stunning serpentines in the country — the MELS Pass. We’ll descend into the At-Bashi Valley to reach the Tash-Rabat Caravanserai (15th c.). This rugged stone fortress on the Silk Road still breathes the atmosphere of ancient caravans and mysterious rituals.

Day 10: Ak-Sai Valley (Pole of Cold) – Kok-Kiya River

Kok Kiya Valley Lake Kel Suu

We cross the legendary Ak-Say Valley — Kyrgyzstan’s official "Pole of Cold." It is a harsh, nearly lifeless landscape with incredible primal energy. Upon arriving at the camp by the Kok-Kyia River, we’ll spend the evening resting and acclimating to the 3500m altitude before our main adventure.

Day 11: Lake Kel-Suu - Naryn

Kel Suu lake

In the morning, we head to Kel-Suu Lake on horseback. Locked between sheer cliffs, its turquoise depths and sheer scale are breathtaking. Optional: if water levels permit, we’ll take a motorboat deep into the canyon (~20 $). After lunch, we depart for Naryn city.

Day 12: Kochkor – Boom Gorge – Bishkek

Kok Moinok Canyons

The final stretch. In Kochkor, we’ll see the creation of famous shyrdak felt rugs. Then, our path leads through the Boom Gorge — a picturesque canyon that guides us back to the capital. The program ends with a farewell dinner and a well-deserved rest at the hotel.
